Bunch of things I wanted to write down

James has really been complaining about school lately. He is about the only kid I know who doesn't like Kindergarten. He complains about the homework (which mostly consists of coloring and other super easy stuff). Although, I will say that every day he complains about going to school, but when I pick him up after school, he always says that he had a good day when I ask. Anyway, on Thursday when I picked James up from school, we began talking about his school day. In the middle of conversation, this is what happens:

James: I know Dad went to college.
Me: Yes, dad went to college. And we want you to go to college too. It is important so you will be able to have a good job and take care of a family just like dad takes care of us.
James: Is college fun?
Me: Not all the time. Some classes will be hard work, but it is worth it. When dad graduated college, you cheered, "Go, dad!" And when you graduate college, we will cheer for you and be very proud. We might even get you a present.
James: Like what kind of present?
Me: A big pile of money?
James: You could get me Pokemon cards.
Me: James, I don't think you will like Pokemon cards anymore when you graduate college.
James: Oh TRUST me, I WILL!

I had to laugh. Kids are funny. I enjoy our talks...

Tonight, my cousins Julie and Jamie, my Aunt Debbie, Aunt Linda, and I went to Granny's house for a ladies night of dinner, card games, and a whole bunch a laughing. It was fun. Granny told us a funny story about the first time she met Grandpa's family. She said that when she met the first person, they shook her hand. When his brother came up, she put her hand out to shake it, but he hugged her instead. Granny said that when he leaned in to hug her, he stepped on her foot and he didn't know it. They stood there having a whole conversation with him standing on her foot! She didn't say anything. It makes me smile just thinking about it.

As we traded stories, I remembered the time at work last year when talking with a client looking for work. I asked her if she had applied with a certain company hiring for a secretary position. She said, "Yes, but they said you have to know how to type and I just peck at the keys." Wanting her to sell herself to the employer, I instinctively said, "Well, did you tell them that you are the fastest pecker they ever saw?" ?!? She look at me strange, kind of chuckled, and left. After she left, as I walked to my desk, I became completely hysterical with laughter. Fastest pecker?!?!? That's what I came up with? I definitely did not mean it the way it came out - another professional moment. :)

Anyway, Granny is so wonderful. I love her stories and am glad we got to spend the evening with her. We all agreed to do it more often.

  1. What a funny story about James. He sounds just right for his age. I'm sure he'll want to go to college once he figures out that's HOW you buy pokemon cards...
